When a business is outsourcing, what can they do to maintain a relationship with their domestic employees?
Say a business is outsourcing some work to countries like Mexico, Honduras, etc. besides cross training their domestic employees what else can the employer do to maintain a healthy relationship with their domestic employees?
What else might HR do to keep the domestic employees productive if the business does outsource work to other countries?
I believe the usual approach (see, for example, UK Car Industry) is to announce 50% Redundancies and tell everyone they all have to apply for the jobs that are remaining ..
.. whilst at the same time announcing that further outsourcing will depend on productivity improving (or not) in UK ..
… that usually prompts a few hot-heads into goading the rest into a illegal (non-balloted) ‘strike’, which means you can shut the plant without paying anyone their redundancy money ..
